Finvarra's Wren
JIM PERKINS

Jim PerkinsJim is the "Head Wren" and is a versatile singer, musician, poet, composer and storyteller, performing American, Irish, Scottish folk and traditional music.

Jim has a compelling voice that is perfect whether singing old folk songs or those in the trickier Irish traditional style. He is an extraordinary performer on guitar, banjo, tin whistle, harmonica and mountain dulcimer. Jim has been an integral part of the Detroit music scene for over 30 years and has played in just about every possible kind of nook and cranny during his career.

Few musicians are capable of performing the variety of music that Jim has demonstrated. Stages ranging from the local Irish pub scene, the Michigan Renaissance Festival and even venerable Ark coffeehouse have welcomed him.

Weddings, children's shows and every manner of special event from the annual St. Patrick's Senior Center benefit in Downtown Detroit to the St. Patrick's Day Parade Fundraiser and a slew of other good causes or fun gigs. Jim hosted the unique open mike nights at the Four Green Fields in Royal Oak for a several years and plays frequently at Historic Greenfield Village in period costume.

A family man, Jim is often seen at gigs with Cheryl, his wife, who is a vocalist , dulcimer and bodhran player in the Wren Band, as well as his two kids, Asher and Alison . The two musically gifted teens play fiddle , whistle , button accordion and concertina with the Wren band. Jim engages the young and old alike with his storytelling and lively stage presence.
