About Jim

Jim Perkins is a versatile singer, musician, poet, composer and storyteller, performing American, Irish, Scottish, folk, traditional and original music. With a wonderful and emotional vocal style that is perfect for the often ornate songs that he loves, Jim is also an extraordinary performer on guitar, tin whistle, harmonica and mountain dulcimer. As well as being an integral performer in the Detroit folk music scene, Jim has played in just about every nook and cranny in the area.

Few musicians are capable of performing the variety of music that Jim has demonstrated. Everything from the local Irish pub scene to the venerable "Ark" coffeehouse and even Comerica Park. Jim played at the Michigan Renaissance Festival for over 15 years is a well recognized part of the Irish community. Weddings, children's shows, concerts and pubs are a small part of the long list of gigs that have helped sculpt him into the truly enjoyable performer he is today.

These days Jim focuses much of his serious musical inspiration onto his band, Finvarra's Wren .

A family man, Jim is often seen at gigs with Cheryl, his wife, who is a singer, dulcimer and bodhran player in the Wren Band, son, Asher (buttoned accordion and concertina) and daughter Alison, (whistle and fiddle) who also perform with the band Finvarra's Wren. Jim engages the young and old alike with his storytelling and lively stage presence.

Jim has four recordings available,

Finvarra's Wren "Haven't Yet Lost my Ears" (2007)

Jim Perkins "Itches in Me Britches" (1981)
