seventeen - year-old Alison is gaining status as both an traditional Irish musician and singer,. Once teased as being "Asher's Sister", Alison has proven to be much more than that. Alison started singing at the tender age of eight winning competitions at local feisianna. Many people joked about her shyness, but as she got older she began to get over it and took a week-long workshop in Irish singing with Bridget Fitzgerald Luckily that fall Virginia and Dave Murphy started a singing class for the local Comhaltas branch. At the age of ten she began to play the tin whistle, taught by her father Jim Perkins, and at twelve she began to take lessons from fiddler Mick Gavin. In the summer of 2001 she attended a week-long workshop with James Kelly. She is currently studying with Marty Somberg Alison currently plays music with her family, and with Finvarra's Wren. She is also a former member of the award-winning Detroit Grupa Ceol. She is now a member of the senior (18 and over) Grupa Ceol "Stray Away Child"
